The transition between countries is handled via a short international flight from Cairo to Amman (approx. 1 hour and 25 minutes). Tour representatives assist with departure formalities at Cairo International Airport and meet you immediately upon arrival at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman to guide you through immigration, baggage collection, and customs.
Visas are required for both countries. Most Western passport holders (US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia) can obtain an Egyptian entry visa on arrival or via e-Visa. For Jordan, tourist visas can be obtained on arrival or issued as an electronic visa/Jordan Pass, which tour representatives facilitate as part of arrival assistance.
Egypt uses the Egyptian Pound (EGP) and Jordan uses the Jordanian Dinar (JOD). US Dollars and Euros are widely accepted for tipping and larger purchases in major hotels and shops across both countries. However, carrying local currency in small denominations is recommended for local markets, small vendors, and site amenities. Credit cards are accepted at all major 5-star hotels and established shops.
The itinerary involves moderate to active walking. Touring Petra involves walking along uneven stone paths through the Siq to the Treasury and Monastery, with several miles of walking per day. Comfortable, sturdy walking shoes or light hiking shoes are essential. For guests with mobility constraints, local transport options (such as golf carts in Petra) can be arranged upon request.
Both countries share semi-arid climates, but temperatures can vary significantly between region and elevation. Pack breathable, lightweight clothing for daytime sightseeing in Cairo and Petra, along with a warm jacket or fleece for cool evenings, particularly in Amman and desert areas like Wadi Rum or the Dead Sea. Modest attire (covering shoulders and knees) is recommended when visiting religious and historical sites in both nations.
