Kenya is the quintessential African safari destination, where vast golden savannahs, acacia trees, and incredible wildlife create an unforgettable experience. It is home to the legendary Maasai Mara and the spectacular Great Migration, when millions of wildebeest and zebras cross the plains in one of nature’s most extraordinary events, surrounded by lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, and other iconic wildlife. Explore the wildlife-rich Laikipia Plains and Lewa, home to important rhino conservation efforts, or discover the dramatic landscapes surrounding Mount Kenya. The country’s lakes, forests, and open plains provide countless opportunities for wildlife viewing, photography, and authentic encounters with nature. Kenya is also a destination for relaxation and cultural discovery. After an unforgettable safari, travel to the Indian Ocean coast to enjoy white-sand beaches, coral reefs, and turquoise waters. Kenya offers some of the finest wildlife experiences in Africa. Elephants, buffalo, giraffes, hippos, and crocodiles can be encountered across its diverse parks and reserves, while lions, leopards, and cheetahs provide unforgettable big-cat sightings. Rhino viewing is particularly rewarding in destinations such as Laikipia, Lake Nakuru, and Nairobi National Park. The country’s most famous spectacle, however, is the Great Wildebeest Migration, when huge herds of wildebeest and zebra move across the plains in search of fresh grazing.

The Dry season, from June to October, is generally considered an excellent period for safari and wildlife viewing. With less vegetation and animals gathering around water sources, sightings can be easier, while the Great Migration typically passes through the Maasai Mara between July and October.
The Wet season, from November to May, offers a different but equally rewarding experience, with lush green landscapes, excellent birdwatching opportunities, migratory birds, and many newborn animals. It can also be an attractive time for travelers looking for more favorable low-season rates.
A Kenyan safari can be enjoyed in many different ways. Traditional game drives are available throughout the national parks and private conservancies, while selected areas offer walking safaris, night drives, horseback adventures, and opportunities to meet local communities. Kenya’s coastline adds another dimension to the journey, with beautiful beaches ideal for swimming, diving, and snorkeling, as well as historic sites and the vibrant city of Mombasa.

Kenya’s location near the Equator means that the country experiences distinct Wet and Dry seasons rather than traditional summer and winter. The wetter period generally runs from November to May, bringing warm temperatures and higher humidity, particularly along the coast. From June to October, conditions are generally drier, with cooler mornings and evenings and pleasant daytime temperatures. Altitude also plays an important role, with temperatures becoming noticeably cooler as elevation increases.
